Is it a laptop? Is it a touch screen? The truth is, it's both and much more besides because the clever designers of the ASUS EeePad Transformer TF101 have created a unit that can function as both.
The qwerty keyboard is to all intents and purposes a docking station. Simply plug in your screen and hey presto, you have a PC. Unplug it and you have a 10.1-inch pressure-sensing touch screen for brilliant on the go HD entertainment and web browsing.
The touch screen unit
The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer has a super slim profile of only 12.98mm in a frame that weighs only 680g and is made with ultra-tough, scratch-resistant glass for easy portability and robust durability.
It is powered by an NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2 dual-core processor, which lets you browse the web at blazing speeds, providing a snappier response time and better performance when multi-tasking.
There are front and rear-facing cameras that can shoot and record HD video, making it a true mobile entertainment device. Built-in SRS Sound technology provides a dynamic 3D stereo audio experience, with maximum bass response and a wide sound field from the discrete speakers housed within the Transformer.
You can even connect the Transformer to a high definition TV and 5.1 surround sound system - use the Mini HDMI port to supersize your entertainment to compatible HDTVs and external displays
The notebook
The Transformer sets itself apart from other tablets on the market by featuring an optional docking station. This provides access to a full QWERTY keyboard along with unique Android Function keys, turning the tablet Transformer into a full-fledged notebook.
The docking station also extends the Transformer's 9.5 hours of battery life up to 16 hours, so users can use it all day for work and play.
Preloaded on the Transformer is Polaris® Office® 3.0, a professional mobile office Solution which enables users to edit various types of office documents including documents (.doc), spreadsheets (.xls) and presentation (.ppt) files, making the Transformer very attractive for professional use. In addition, the ultra-convenient ASUS WebStorage with one year of unlimited storage space provides worry-free cloud computing.
In fact there's only one downside with this computer . . . it's not available until June 1st 2011. It is available for preorder however.
